Do Indians need a visa for Kazakhstan?
No. Indian passport holders enter Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 14 consecutive days, with a maximum of 42 days total in any 180-day period. The rule comes from Government Decree 464 of 7 July 2022 and is confirmed by the Embassy of India in Astana. There is no fee, no application and no embassy visit — you land, show your documents at immigration and walk out.

Staying longer than 14 days? You need an e-Visa, which takes around five working days and is only valid for arrival and departure through Almaty or Astana airports — land borders are not accepted with an e-Visa. Flights from India to Almaty
Air Astana flies non-stop from Delhi to Almaty in about 3 hours 35 minutes, roughly twice a day. The distance is only 1,652 km, which is shorter than Delhi to Bangkok — one of the reasons Kazakhstan has become an easy short-break destination from India.
From Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Chennai, the usual route is a connection through Delhi, or through a Gulf hub such as Dubai or Sharjah. Most travellers we host fly in on a morning flight and start touring the same afternoon.
Kazakhstan runs on UTC+5, so Almaty is only 30 minutes ahead of Indian Standard Time. There is no jet lag to recover from, which is why a four or five-night trip actually works here in a way it does not for Europe.

The trip most families and couples from India book. Everything within an hour of Almaty, no long drives, maximum time in the snow.

Food: vegetarian, Jain and halal
What is easy
Kazakhstan is a Muslim-majority country, so halal meat is the default in most restaurants rather than something you have to hunt for. Almaty also has Indian restaurants in the centre, and we build the route so lunch lands near one when that matters to you.
Bread, rice, dairy, fresh fruit, nuts and dried fruit are everywhere and excellent — the Green Bazaar alone is worth the trip for that.
What needs planning
Pure vegetarian and Jain meals need notice. Kazakh cuisine is meat-heavy and stock is used widely, so we call ahead rather than hope. Tell us your requirement when you book and we will confirm where you eat each day before you fly.
On the long canyon and lake days we can also arrange a packed vegetarian lunch to carry, which is often simpler than depending on a roadside café.

We do not publish a single price, because the honest answer changes with four things and quoting one number would mislead most people who ask.

Practical things worth knowing
Money and payments
- The currency is the tenge (KZT). Exchange at the airport or in the city; rupees are not exchangeable, so carry USD or use a card
- Indian debit and credit cards generally work at hotels, restaurants and shops
- Carry some cash for the Green Bazaar and small roadside stops
Phone, language and clothing
- Local SIM cards are cheap and sold at the airport; international roaming from Indian networks also works
- Russian and Kazakh are the everyday languages; English is common in hotels, less so on the street — your guide handles the rest
- In winter you need a proper jacket, gloves, a cap and waterproof shoes. Ski gear can be rented at Shymbulak

Will there be snow when we visit?
From December to February, yes — reliably, both in the city and on the mountain. In March there is still good snow at Shymbulak at 3,200 m even when Almaty itself has cleared. From May to October there is no snow at the levels tourists reach, though the high peaks stay white all year.
Can we get a Hindi-speaking guide?
Yes, on request and with reasonable notice. Our standard guiding languages are English, Russian and Turkish, and Hindi-speaking guides are arranged separately, so tell us when you send your dates rather than after booking.
Is pure vegetarian or Jain food available?
Yes, with planning. Kazakh food is meat-heavy, so we do not leave it to chance — we confirm restaurants along your route in advance and can arrange packed vegetarian meals for the long canyon and lake days. Halal meat is standard across the country, so that needs no special arrangement.
How many days are enough for Kazakhstan from India?
Four nights covers Almaty, the ski resort and one canyon day comfortably. Six nights adds the mountain lakes and a night in the mountains. Anything beyond 14 days needs an e-Visa, so most trips from India sit in the four-to-seven night range.
Do you arrange hotels and airport pickup?
Both, if you want them. We can book 3, 4 or 5-star hotels in Almaty and quote one price for the whole trip, or you book your own and we handle only the touring. Airport pickup and drop-off is available as an add-on — send your flight numbers and we include it in the quote.
Is Almaty safe for families and solo women travellers?
Almaty is generally a calm, orderly city and we have hosted many families and solo travellers from India. Normal precautions apply as in any large city. On our tours you are with a guide and driver throughout, and pickup and drop-off is at your hotel door.
Do you arrange honeymoon packages?
Yes. We adjust the 6-night route with a mountain hotel instead of the village guesthouse, a private photo session at Kok Tobe and a sunrise start at the canyon when the light is best. Mention it when you write and we will price that version.
